As a part of the Duke of Edinburgh Gold requirements, this June, I participated in a residential volunteer trip in Seoul, Korea. Our program took place at a soup kitchen, where we spent the day helping out in a variety of tasks. Some tasks, like cutting cucumbers or serving plates, were quite fun and meaningful, but others, like cutting onions, could be quite a challenge. Overall, however, being able to help out a community in need highlighted the severity of food insecurity and the importance of soup kitchens. While they may not be able to end hunger, they serve as crucial organizations for residents in the community. Moreover, while I have previously visited Seoul, the volunteer trip was an amazing opportunity to truly immerse myself in the culture and explore new areas of the city.
